The Florida bonneted bat is the rarest bat in the United States. Their greatest threat is the loss of habitat and they are only found in a handful of counties in South Florida. Our 168 acres of green space offers unique & critical wildlife habitat that must be preserved! Bat Conservation International’s acoustic monitoring results indicate that Federally endangered Florida bonneted bats are using the former Calusa Golf Course area for foraging.
The proposed 550 home development site plan cannot be finalized until the detailed utilization of the bonneted bat, and other possible endangered species such as the burrowing owl and wood stork, are confirmed.
